Facial width-to-height ratio (fWHR)

also: fwhr · width to height ratio

fWHR is the ratio of face width to upper-face height. It's studied for its links to perceived dominance and masculinity.

The facial width-to-height ratio (fWHR) compares the width of the face (cheekbone to cheekbone) with the height of the upper face (brow to upper lip). It has been studied for correlations with perceived dominance, masculinity, and assertiveness.

fWHR is structural and largely fixed, but body-fat affects facial width, so leanness shifts how it presents. It is one input among many — no single ratio determines how a face reads.
